IAQ (Infrequently Asked Questions)

• Do we have a chance to spot celebrities on your trips?
Actually, you do have a chance to spot celebs if you join us. Joey is our local celeb seal who we often spot on our kayaking overnights. He likes swimming & playing around the boats. Then there’s Pierre, our employee who’s been on Natural Geographic for his outdoor photography work. Right, and then there’s Pieter. He wants to be a celeb it’s not going very well for him. If you want to make him feel better, you can ask him for his autograph. This usually makes his day.

• What’s your favorite music to listen to whilst kayaking?
Well, actually we don’t listen to music whilst kayaking at all. It would not be a very safe thing to do. Imagine a guest flipping over and the guide not noticing because (s)he’s listening to Drake’s new album! In a fantasy world though, it would probably be opera to match the harmonious sounds of the sea.

• Do you really leave no trace?
Well, yes. I mean no, we don’t. Except for this one time when we were building our kayak rental and we dropped a screw. We still search for it from time to time.

• Do you often see elephants on ice skating trips?
No, we do not often see elephants on ice skating trips. Our guide Henrik thought he did in the corner of his eye this one time, but it turned out to be a large rock.

• What’s the most gruesome thing you have experienced on your trips?
Luckily, we do not experience many gruesome scenarios on our work. But there was this one time that we spotted a dead hare, frozen within the ice. His head was sticking out. Two white tailed eagles were picking his brain (in the literal sense of the word) after opening up his skull. By far the most gruesome thing we have seen. Hands down.
